Researchers have made significant steps towards developing a brain implant that will restore sight to those affected by visa impairment and blindness.
A large, long-term study confirms that medications with anticholinergic activity, which include many drugs frequently taken by older adults, cause cognitive impairment. The research is also the first to identify a possible link between these drugs - which include over-the-counter and prescription sleep aids and incontinence treatments - and risk of death.
In an animal study published Oct. 1, 2021, in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics, Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers have provided evidence that treating spinal tumors with "fractionated" radiation therapy — doses given in a series of sessions rather than a single treatment — helps prevent vertebral compression fractures.
In a recent development, doctors have warned regarding the possibly toxicities of common pain killer Ibuprofen adding that it can lead to a potentially fatal condition which can be triggered, in rare cases, by even a standard dose. The condition in question is called renal tubular acidosis (RTA). The research is published in the Medical Journal of Australia.
