IRS controversy fuels Republican health law opposition
Just as the House took its 37th vote to repeal the health law, largely along party lines, the Republicans held their first hearing on the IRS's tax-exempt and government-entities division. Several media outlets report that Sarah Hall Ingram, who led the division when the questioned operations began, is now in charge of the branch overseeing implementation of parts of the health law.
Senate Republicans reject payroll tax extension measures
Proposals to extend payroll tax relief, as well as take steps to prevent a scheduled 30 percent reduction in Medicare physician reimbursements from taking effect in January, are high on the congressional to-do list. A House vote on a doc-fix patch could take place as soon as next week.
Arigene requests Trimeris to extend tender offer for outstanding shares
Trimeris, Inc. ("Trimeris") today announced that in connection with the Agreement and Plan of Merger dated October 2, 2009, as amended, by and among Trimeris, Arigene Co., Ltd. and RTM Acquisition Company ("Arigene" and "Purchaser," respectively) (the "Merger Agreement"), Arigene has requested through counsel that Trimeris consent to an extension of the expiration date of the tender offer for all of Trimeris' outstanding shares of common stock commenced by Arigene and the Purchaser on October 19, 2009. Arigene has requested an extension of the expiration date of the tender offer to January 15, 2010.
