Hebrew University professor wins 2013 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research

The American Association for Cancer Research has chosen Prof. Alexander Levitzki of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as the winner of its 2013 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research.

Salk scientist receives Career Development Award for new research from JDRF

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has given Salk scientist Mark Huising a five-year, $750,000 Career Development Award for his proposed study on how a novel network of receptors in human islets receives and integrates molecular signals. In pre-clinical models, activation of these receptors has proven to actually prevent diabetes.

New statistical model could predict an individual's lifetime risk of stroke

Using genetic information from 569 hospital patients, the researchers showed that their predictive model could estimate an individual's overall risk of cardioembolic stroke - the most common form of stroke - with 86 percent accuracy. The findings are reported in the March issue of Stroke.
