New HHS grant will allow Pennsylvania HIV, STI education program to continue

The Community Prevention Partnership of Berks County, Pa. - which runs a program that provides Hispanic women with education about HIV and sexually transmitted infection prevention, as well as domestic violence - has received a five-year, $335,000 grant from HHS to continue the program, the Reading Eagle reports.

Johns Hopkins ACG risk adjustment system to be used in Spain, Portugal

Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health have signed a four-year agreement with Iasist of Barcelona, Spain, which will give Iasist distribution rights to the JHU Adjusted Clinical GroupsĀ® Case-Mix System (ACG System) in Spain and Portugal. "It was beyond [Anne Mitchell's] conception that she would be indicted and threatened with 10 years in prison for doing what she knew a nurse must: inform state regulators that a doctor at her rural hospital was practicing bad medicine." Mitchell was first jailed in June and will stand trial this week for "misuse of official information, a third-degree felony in Texas," after reporting a physician for using unorthodox procedures - some of which went awry - and practicing in an operating room where he did not have privileges.
