A new study published in the journal Cell in February 2020 reports that eating less is associated with better immunity, reduce inflammation all over the body, and reduced odds of diseases related to old age, as well as increasing the odds of living longer.
Researchers at the Hospital de Mar Research Institute (IMIM) have discovered that the protein LOXL2 has a function within the cell nucleus thus far unknown. They have also described a new chemical reaction of this protein on histone H3 that would be involved in gene silencing, one of which would be involved in the progression of breast, larynx, lung and skin tumours.
OrbusNeich Medical, Inc., a designer, developer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative medical devices for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, today announced that on March 23, 2010, the Company was granted U.S. Patent No. 7,682,384 B2, entitled "Stent with Helical Elements." The patent relates to an expandable stent comprised of a plurality of helical segments. The Company noted that it has identified unlicensed use by Boston Scientific Corporation of certain technologies protected under U.S. Patent No. 7,682,384 B2.
Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA), representing more than 16,000 registered nurses in Washington State, has filed a lawsuit in federal court against MultiCare Health System for unilaterally implementing a mandatory vaccination policy. This new policy will force nurses to get the flu vaccination or to wear face masks as a condition of employment and may result in the firing of nurses who do not comply with the policy.
Flasks, beakers, and hot plates may soon be a thing of the past in medicinal chemistry labs. Instead of handling a few experiments on a benchtop, scientists may simply pop a microchip into a computer and instantly run thousands of chemical reactions, with results literally shrinking the lab down to the size of a thumbnail.
