Adults who abuse cocaine might increase their risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD), and pregnant women who abuse cocaine could increase the risk of their children developing PD later in life, according to results of laboratory studies performed by investigators at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A new study has shown that choosing to eat healthy can be expensive. Researchers from the University of Washington looked at the economic impact of following new U.S. dietary guidelines, which recommend eating more potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin D and calcium, and avoiding saturated fat and added sugar. These recommendations aimed at curbing the rising number of obese and overweight individuals, but the study findings underline some of the obstacles to adopting new habits.
The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves "launched a campaign in Nigeria on Tuesday aimed at preventing deaths due to toxic smoke from rudimentary cookstoves, one of the developing world's worst public health threats," Agence France-Presse reports.
ZeaVision, LLC launched a unique online campaign to increase awareness about Age-related Macular Degeneration during February for AMD Awareness Month.
In fact, when the two are combined, the study showed, the amount of medication required to achieve the same results as use of medication alone can be reduced by two-thirds.
