Fueling exploration by investigators who collaborate under a research consortium partnership as recognized by the National Cancer Institute, between Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Princeton University, the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer has awarded $250,000 toward the identification and development of novel strategies to address treatment resistance in non-small cell lung cancer.
A new study conducted by MedUni Vienna in collaboration with scientists from Hungary and Sweden has now shown for the first time that the success of specialised drugs to inhibit blood supply to tumours - so-called angiogenesis inhibitors - is compromised by the fact that these drugs do not effectively penetrate the tumour tissue and so do not reach the smallest blood vessels in the tumour.
New research shows that exposure to stressors in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is associated with alterations in the brain structure and function of very preterm infants. According to the study now available in Annals of Neurology, a journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the American Neurological Association and Child Neurology Society, infants who experienced early exposure to stress displayed decreased brain size, functional connectivity, and abnormal motor behavior.
Massachusetts' two largest insurers have again asked regulators for permission to increase their rates. "Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the state's biggest health insurer, is requesting increases averaging 12 percent, on the lower end of the range it submitted earlier in the spring. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, the number two carrier, wants increases that range from 8.8 percent to 11.9 percent, about the same range it sought in the round that was rejected" (Weisman, 6/3).
"The National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems and its members applaud the Administration's launch today of a national dialogue on mental health," said NAPHS President and CEO Mark Covall.
