Polyplus-transfection SA, a privately-held company developing innovative technologies for molecular and cellular biology, announces today that it has granted two agencies of the United States National Institutes of Health a non-exclusive, research license to use Polyethylenimine (PEI) for in vitro transfection applications. The two agencies are the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the National Cancer Institute.
In a new, large-scale, prospective study exploring the link between levels of urate in the blood and risk of Parkinson's disease, researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) have found that high levels of urate are strongly associated with a reduced risk of the disease.
Current treatment regimens for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the causative agent of tuberculosis, are long, complex, and hard for people to sustain. Moreover, the bacteria often develop drug resistance, and many people harbor multi-drug-resistant strains. In 2018 alone, nearly 1.5 million people died from tuberculosis worldwide.
Chemotherapeutic drugs, also known as antineoplastic agents, that are prescribed to treat a range of cancer types, enter the aquatic environment via human excretion and wastewater treatment facilities.
