Exelixis, Inc. today announced preliminary results from BRIM7, an ongoing Phase Ib trial conducted by Roche and Genentech, Exelixis' collaborator and a member of the Roche Group, of the BRAF inhibitor (BRAFi) vemurafenib in combination with the MEK inhibitor GDC-0973 in patients with locally advanced/unresectable or metastatic melanoma carrying a BRAFV600 mutation.
Arlington Medical Resources (AMR) and Decision Resources find that relapse or recurrence of infections is the most challenging aspect of treating Clostridium difficile infections in the hospital setting.
New research shows that medications which have raised safety concerns over heart attack and stroke risks may not have gotten approval from the Food and Drug Administration if the cardiovascular effects of fluid retention had been better understood. Fluid retention may explain the increased risk of heart attacks and strokes of medications such as Vioxx, Bextra, and Avandia.
The occurrence of the disease is currently thought to be due to several factors including the toxic nature of the infecting strain, the genetic susceptibility of the host, and environmental factors.
In patients with fluid overload, inhibition of the chloride-absorbing transporter pendrin and the NaCl co-transporter may provide an effective diuretic regimen without triggering hypokalemia, research suggests.
