Colorado is taking a critical step to protect low-income women during their pregnancy through incentive-based smoking cessation interventions. A new study from the Colorado School of Public Health at the Anschutz Medical Campus shows a significant reduction in infant morbidity due to the program.
Fenwal, Inc., a global medical technology company focused on improving blood collection, separation, safety and availability, announced today that in a trial of its new Autopheresis-C® software, plasma-center professionals and donors reported faster plasma-collection times and an improved plasma-collection and donation experience. More than 90 percent of donors surveyed reported a decrease in their donation wait time. Donors who are more satisfied are more likely to donate regularly.
Physicians at Mayo Clinic's Florida campus are among the first in the nation to use a technique known as MRI-guided laser ablation to heat up and destroy kidney and liver tumors. So far, five patients have been successfully treated meaning no visible tumors remained after the procedure.
More than 30 organizations from across Canada are uniting as partners in a series of initiatives designed to improve the health of Canadians by preventing chronic disease. A total of $15.5 million is being invested in seven collaborative coalitions addressing such issues as childhood obesity, screening for chronic disease by family doctors, and the unique needs of First Nations communities.
