Persons with narcolepsy with cataplexy have low levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hypocretin-1, a protein thought to help regulate sleep and wakefulness, according to a study published in the August 1st issue of the journal SLEEP.
When hospitalised, people can become acutely confused and disorientated. This condition, known as delirium, affects a quarter of older patients and new research by UCL and the University of Cambridge shows it may have long-lasting consequences, including accelerating the dementia process.
The computer-based system will undergo a major trial this year, with researchers able to create a commercially ready test thanks to a grant from the Telstra Broadband Fund.
At a roundtable organized by the Coalition for Innovation Employment and Development, the U.S.-India Business Council's 'Coalition for Healthy India' released the findings of its report on "The Value of Incremental Pharmaceutical Innovation: Benefits for Indian Patients and Indian Business". The report highlights and substantiates the impact of restrictive policies in India, with respect to medical and pharmaceutical innovation.
A new blood test could enable doctors to rule out tuberculosis (TB) infection within days rather than weeks, according to a new study published this week in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.
