A new gene that causes early-onset of Alzheimer's disease has been discovered by the research team of Dominique Campion at the Insert unit 1079 "Genetics of cancer and neuropsychiatric diseases" in Rouen.
Insects and plants have an important ancient defense mechanism that helps them to fight viruses. This is encoded in their DNA. Scientists have long assumed that vertebrates - including humans - also had this same mechanism. But researchers at KU Leuven, Belgium, have found that vertebrates lost this particular asset in the course of their evolution.
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a proposed order that, if finalized, would reclassify sunlamp products and require labeling to include a recommendation designed to warn young people not to use these devices.
Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company today announced results from the first double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study to evaluate BYETTA (exenatide) injection added to Lantus (insulin glargine), which showed patients with type 2 diabetes achieved glucose targets without weight gain or increasing their risk of hypoglycemia. These findings were presented at the 70th Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association in Orlando, Fla.
