High exposure to estrogens may cause gall bladder cancer: Research

A very aggressive disease with a poor prognosis, gallbladder cancer may be connected to higher exposure to estrogens, according to a group of researchers at the University of Houston (UH). Dr. Jan-ke Gustafsson, Robert A. Welch Professor in UH's biology and biochemistry department, described his team's findings in a paper titled "Estrogen-dependent gallbladder carcinogenesis in LXRβ-/- female mice" appearing in a recent issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, one of the world's most-cited multidisciplinary scientific serials.

Sleep deprived kids at risk of obesity: Study

Children under five who do not get adequate sleep at night are at increased risk for later childhood obesity says a new study. The researchers found that daytime naps are not enough to compensate for sleep loss at nights in terms of preventing obesity. The study is published in the September issue of the journal Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

He has said that that the federal government's grab for 30 per cent of the states' GST would damage co-operative federalism.
