Multiresistant bacteria are a severe problem that costs lives at hospitals the world over. A new doctoral thesis from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden shows that the spread of disease between seriously ill patients in intensive care units is surprisingly rife.
GeoVax Labs, Inc., an Atlanta-based biopharmaceutical firm developing vaccines to prevent and fight Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infections, announced today that it has entered into definitive agreements with certain institutional investors, pursuant to which the Company has agreed to sell shares of its Series A convertible preferred stock at an aggregate purchase price of approximately $2.2 million and Series A warrants to purchase up to an aggregate of 2,933,333 shares of GeoVax common stock with an exercise price of $1.00 per share and a term of five years.
Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. (NYSE: OHI) today announced that it has entered into a securities purchase agreement with CapitalSource Inc. and several of its affiliates to purchase entities owning 80 long term care facilities ("Facilities") for approximately $565 million. The purchase price includes a purchase option ("Option") to acquire entities owning an additional 63 Facilities for approximately $295 million.
"Researchers who tested a novel type of antibiotic against multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis [MDR-TB] are reporting that nearly half of patients who got the new drug cleared the bacteria from their lung fluid in two months," according to a study published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine, Reuters reports.
Scientists in the U.S. have developed a simple saliva test which will quickly show if a person is having or about to have a heart attack.
