The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria on Tuesday released Issue 5 of its newsletter, the "Global Fund News Flash."
Urinary catheters are often left in place longer than needed, and new research shows that reminder systems that encourage hospital staff to remove catheters promptly can reduce the rate of catheter-associated urinary tract infections by 52 percent.
Par Pharmaceutical Companies, Inc. today announced that it (and its subsidiary Par Pharmaceutical and development partner MN Pharmaceuticals of Turkey) has entered into a settlement agreement with sanofi-aventis that resolves patent litigation related to its generic version of sanofi's and Debiopharm's Eloxatin® (oxaliplatin injection) product, a drug used to treat colorectal cancer, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Hot on the heels of discovering a protective form of immune response to spinal cord injury, researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine have pinpointed the biological trigger for that response - a vital step toward being able to harness the body's defenses to improve treatment for spine injuries, brain trauma, Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.
