Gov. Jerry Brown and the Democratic-controlled Legislature passed a budget last year that was built on a rickety foundation of false hopes. If that wasn't apparent at the time, it is now that the budget deficit has ballooned to $15.7 billion, up from Brown's $9.2 billion estimate from only four months ago. ... Owens & Minor signs definitive agreement to acquire Medical Action Industries

Owens & Minor, Inc., a leading healthcare logistics company, and Medical Action Industries Inc., a leading producer of custom procedure trays (CPTs) and minor procedure kits, announced today that the two companies have signed a definitive agreement under which Owens & Minor will acquire all outstanding shares of Medical Action for $13.80 per share in cash, representing a total transaction value of approximately $208 million, including assumed debt, net of cash.
