Barzilai Medical Center in Israel receives $50,000 grant from AJC to buy urgent care equipment

In response to the emergency situation facing Israel because of the Hamas rocket and missile attacks, AJC announced today a grant to the Barzilai Medical Center in Israel. With the $50,000 grant from AJC's Israel Emergency Fund and Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, Barzilai will purchase an anesthesia machine for its emergency room.

Evotec grants Jingxin Pharma rights to develop, market EVT 201 insomnia drug candidate in China

Evotec AG today announced that it has entered into a license and collaboration agreement with Zhejiang Jingxin Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd for EVT 201, a novel potential treatment for insomnia. The agreement grants Jingxin Pharma exclusive rights to develop and market the drug candidate in China. In return, Evotec will receive a small upfront payment, together with commercial milestones and significant royalties.

Data from MiDAS I trial of mild for treatment of LSS to be released

Medical device company Vertos Medical, Inc. has announced the release of additional patient outcomes data from the MiDAS I trial, a prospective, 75-patient study of mild for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. As presented at the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians Annual Meeting in Orlando on May 23, investigators found that study participants reported statistically significant improvement in both their physical and mental well-being six weeks following the mild procedure.

Loss of smell should be listed as early symptom of COVID-19

Though the two common symptoms are cough and fever, recent studies and reports point to a loss of smell as a symptom early in the disease process. A team of researchers at the Technical University Dresden (TU Dresden) revealed that the sudden loss of smell is experienced by many patients infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
