Short height, low education are traits of diabetic Nigerian women showing signs of dementia

A joint survey by researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Benue State University finds that short height and low education levels are characteristic traits of Nigerian women with type 2 diabetes showing early symptoms of dementia.

Tivozanib overall survival results announced by AVEO and Astellas

AVEO Oncology (NASDAQ: AVEO) and Astellas Pharma Inc. (TSE: 4503) announced overall survival (OS) for tivozanib, an investigational agent, from the Phase 3 TIVO-1 (TIvozanib Versus sOrafenib in 1st line advanced RCC) study in patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The final OS analysis, as specified by the protocol, shows a median OS of 28.8 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 22.5–NA) for tivozanib versus a median OS of 29.3 months (95% CI: 29.3–NA) for the comparator arm, sorafenib.

Merck returns worldwide development and commercialization rights for AN2690 to Anacor Pharmaceuticals

Anacor Pharmaceuticals announced today that Merck has returned full worldwide development and commercialization rights for AN2690 to Anacor. AN2690 is a topical anti-fungal therapy being developed for onychomycosis, a fungal infection of the nail and nail bed. It is estimated that onychomycosis affects approximately 35 million people in the United States.

The authors found that not only do the treatments reduce the volume of the plaque, but also the plaque becomes less inflammatory over time harboring fewer characteristics prone to rupture and cause a heart attack.
