Breastfed children score higher on neurocognitive tests, study finds

New research finds that children who were breastfed scored higher on neurocognitive tests. Researchers in the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience at the University of Rochester Medical Center analyzed thousands of cognitive tests taken by nine and ten-year-olds whose mothers reported they were breastfed, and compared those results to scores of children who were not.

LPHC to acquire Santos Administraçāo e Participações regional healthcare system in Brazil

LONDON PACIFIC & PARTNERS, INC., the international advisory and investment firm, today announced that LP Healthcare Group, LLC ("LPHC"), a joint venture between London Pacific and Incite Financial, LLC, has signed an agreement to acquire Santos Administraçāo e Participações S.A. ("Santos") — a regional healthcare system including a 125,000-member health maintenance organization (HMO) , three hospitals with a total of 290-beds, three full-service primary care centers and other related interests in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The three hospitals include a 250-bed comprehensive regional hospital and two local hospitals.

AHRQ: Hospital readmissions comparatively higher among black COPD patients

For patients age 40 and over with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hospital readmissions within 30 days of initial treatment were 30 percent higher among blacks than Hispanics or Asians and Pacific Islanders and about 9 percent higher than whites in 2008, according to the latest News and Numbers from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
