DURECT Corporation announced today that it has begun dosing patients in its U.S. pivotal Phase III clinical trial to evaluate POSIDUR™ (SABER™-Bupivacaine), an investigational drug, for the treatment of post-surgical pain. The pivotal trial, referred to as BESST (Bupivacaine Effectiveness and Safety in SABER Trial), is an international, multi-center, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial evaluating the safety, efficacy, effectiveness, and pharmacokinetics of POSIDUR in patients undergoing general surgical procedures.
The world's "hottest" researcher is biochemist Rudolf Jaenisch from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is joined by scientists scattered from Ann Arbor to Osaka on the annual Thomson Reuters list of the world's 12 hottest researchers.
The numbers are stark. An astounding three out of every four U.S. families include one family member diagnosed with cancer. Worldwide, 28 million people - more than 12 million people in the U.S. alone - are now living with cancer. While the survivor population continues to grow, few public resources exist to promote the exchange of education and experiential information among survivors.
Over 300,000 immigrants a year are detained by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE), a branch of the Department of Homeland Security. In recent years, studies by community-based organizations, the government, and the media have identified systemic deficiencies in the provision of healthcare to immigrant detainees and have described incidents of inadequate medical treatment, suffering and, in some cases, death.
