MRI scans of healthy military recruits reveal sacroiliac joint damage that mimics axial spondyloarthritis

The magnetic resonance imaging scans of healthy military recruits showed sacroiliac joint damage similar to that found in axial spondyloarthritis after just six weeks of intensive physical training, reinforcing the importance of exercising caution when interpreting MRI results, according to new research findings presented this week at the 2017 ACR/ARHP Annual Meeting in San Diego.

UCSD Moores Cancer Center expert available to discuss breast brachytherapy

Recent controversy about breast brachytherapy - a shorter course of radiation treatment for breast cancer - has called into question whether the technique is being offered to too many women. New research on an advanced form of brachytherapy is now being reported by UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center and 11 other centers in the United States. These studies report highly favorable outcomes for a form of breast brachytherapy called SAVI.

Pew funds 10 Latin American scientists to conduct research on world's most troubling health problems

Ten scientists were named Pew Latin American Fellows in the Biomedical Sciences by The Pew Charitable Trusts today. The fellowship provides support to advance grantees' research, enables them to study with prominent U.S. scientists, and invests seed capital to help them establish laboratories in their home countries.
