Educating local physicians key to care of children with cleft deformities in Zimbabwe

A surgical team that traveled to Zimbabwe successfully treated 39 children with cleft lip or palate, and an ongoing relationship with physicians there will help meet the needs of local patients, according to an article that will appear in the November/December 2007 print issue of Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

A drug that unleashes the immune system to attack cancer can produce lasting remissions and hold the disease in check - for more than two years, in some cases - in many patients with advanced melanoma, according to a new study by researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, and allied institutions.

Microbe screening and sorting device created by researchers

Researchers have made a device that could sour the waters of the seas for microbes and also detect which of these could develop antimicrobial resistance. This could quantify the threat they pose to the ecosystems. This portable device and the trial with it were reported in the latest issue of the journal Scientific Reports. The study was titled, "Electrical impedance as an indicator of microalgal cell health."
