Hutchinson Center scientists awarded $16.7M to develop progenitor and stem cell tools

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute has awarded a total of $16.7 million to Irwin Bernstein, M.D., and Beverly Torok-Storb, Ph.D., both members of the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Hutchinson Center grants represent part of a $170 million effort involving 18 teams of research scientists dedicated to developing stem- and progenitor-cell tools and therapies.

Some six million people in the U.S. suffer from scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine. These include approximately 2 to 3% of adolescents who are diagnosed each year with idiopathic scoliosis, which is usually identified during puberty and progresses until skeletal maturity.

GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services announced today that it was sole lender and administrative agent on $7.5 million in senior secured credit facilities for PharmAthene, consisting of a $2.5 million term loan and a $5 million revolving line of credit.
