U.S. Senators introduce Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Enhancement Act

The Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis (CPF) announced today the Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Enhancement Act has been introduced in the Senate by Senators Chris Coons and Mike Crapo in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Erik Paulsen and Rep. Tammy Baldwin.

Altering malarial parasite genes to prevent malaria

Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by the parasitic organism called Plasmodium, of which there are several types that cause the different kinds of malarial fever. This age-old infection still kills over 400,000 people every year, all over the world. A new study published in the journal Cell on November 14, 2019, shows how a simple tweaking of the genes of this organism could quite conceivably lead to the elimination of this disease altogether.

George W. Bush to travel to Africa to raise awareness about cervical, breast cancer

Former President George W. Bush will travel next month with former first lady Laura Bush and officials with the George W. Bush Institute to Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia "where they'll visit clinics and meet with governmental and health care leaders ... to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer, an effort he calls a 'natural extension' of" the PEPFAR program launched during his presidency, the Associated Press reports.

Geron Corporation today commented on a ruling from the European Patent Office with regard to its European patent 084139, and the issuance of a second Geron patent covering telomerase peptides, EP1783139.
