SensAble Technologies' digital dentistry product line receives $8M infusion

SensAble Technologies, Inc®, a leading provider of 3D modeling software, haptic devices and dental restoration design and fabrication solutions, announced that it has received an $8 million investment to propel sales, marketing and engineering efforts for its digital dentistry product line. A US-Ireland partnership involving researchers at Queen's University Belfast has been awarded £2.9m to develop new treatments for pancreatic cancer, which is the fifth most common cause of cancer deaths in the UK.

Arana updates inflammatory pipeline milestones

Biotechnology company Arana Therapeutics Limited today provided an update on the major inflammatory compounds in its drug development pipeline. As part of this update, Arana said it has developed a new antibody candidate ART123, targeting inflammatory diseases and it plans to start a Phase I clinical trial for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) candidate PMX53 in 2009.

Protease inhibitors used to treat HIV-1 infection may also be effective for treatment or prevention of malaria

The study found protease inhibitors inhibited the growth of P. falciparum, the malaria parasite that causes most disease. These findings may also expose a previously unexplored vulnerability in the parasite that could lead to a new class of anti-malarial drug.

Protego develops sternal device for cardiac surgery with start-up investment from MRCF

Protego Medical Pty Ltd, an early stage medical technology company developing a medical device for sternal protection during cardiac surgery, was launched today with AU$2M start-up financing from Australia's Medical Research Commercialisation Fund (MRCF).
