Intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) allows patients to control their own pain medication, but a new study published in the December 2008 issue of The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety shows that errors related to this practice are four times more likely to result in patient harm than errors that occur with other medications.

Modern chemo more effective than second targeted hormone therapy against resistant prostate cancer

A modern chemotherapy drug is more effective for men with advanced prostate cancer than a second targeted hormone therapy in patients who have stopped responding to treatment, a major clinical trial shows.

New radiation protection technique significantly reduces physician radiation exposure during coronary angiography

Using the new device, physicians monitor patients' angiograms and control exam table movement from behind a lead plastic shield.
