Frailty is the medical term for becoming weaker or experiencing lower levels of activity/energy. Becoming frail as we age increases our risk for poor health, falls, disability, and other serious concerns. This can be especially true for older people facing surgery, up to half of whom are classified as frail.
A new study published online today by Pediatrics and conducted by the Center for Injury Research and Policy and the Central Ohio Poison Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital found that there were more than 188,000 calls to US Poison Control Centers for pediatric exposure to opioids from January 2000 through December 2015, averaging 32 calls a day or one every 45 minutes.
Two teams led by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers, also members of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI), are among 18 groups receiving National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) grants for the development of stem-cell based tools and treatments to understand and treat cardiovascular and blood disorders.
With more than 86 million Americans living with prediabetes and nearly 90 percent of them unaware of it, the American Medical Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today announced that they have joined forces to take urgent action to Prevent Diabetes STAT and are urging others to join in this critical effort.
