Generous public employee health benefits have survived major threats so far, but the growing gap between public- and private-sector benefits, coupled with new accounting rules for government agencies, could force public officials to make more far-reaching benefit changes
"Last month the U.K. Department for International Development announced that £35 million [$53.3 million] would be provided to help eliminate female genital mutilation in Africa and elsewhere," Efua Dorkenoo, advocacy director of the FGM program for Equality Now, writes in the Guardian's "Global Development Professionals Network."
When researchers at the Chang Gung University Medical College, Taiwan and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine injected botulinum toxin A, or Botox, into the prostate gland of men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition commonly referred to as enlarged prostate, they found that it eased symptoms and improved quality of life.
Five insurance companies including Minnetonka-based Medica next year will stop providing a particular type of Medicare health plan in much of Minnesota, a state official said Thursday.
