As the days grow longer and hotter, some chemical dependency professionals have their own name for summer: substance abuse season, because that's when individuals who abuse or are addicted to alcohol, prescription medications and drugs get involved in alcohol or drug related accidents during the summer holidays.
In a research paper recently published in the journal Nature by Klünemann et al. (September 8th, 2021), the interaction of 15 diverse drugs with 25 common strains of gut bacteria is investigated, revealing 70 bacteria-drug interactions that include 29 entirely novel mechanisms not yet reported.
2009 was an eventful year, with a mixture of successes and breakthroughs, but also with some challenges which required that measures be taken during the autumn. Our mature clinics continued to develop well during the year, as did most of our newly started clinics. 2009 was therefore the first time that we achieved a positive whole-year result before close-down costs in England, despite increasing development and start-up costs for the Group as a whole.
