A growing number of hospital systems are moving to start their own insurance plans, aiming to broaden their roles and prepare for the changes coming under the federal health-care overhaul. Piedmont Healthcare and WellStar Health System, both in the Atlanta area, are set to announce a jointly owned insurance arm, with the goal of marketing coverage to employers and Medicare recipients in 2014.
A five year study conducted with thousands of local teenagers by University of Montreal researchers reveals that those who used speed (meth/ampthetamine) or ecstasy (MDMA) at fifteen or sixteen years of age were significantly more likely to suffer elevated depressive symptoms the following year. "Our findings are consistent with other human and animal studies that suggest long-term negative influences of synthetic drug use," said co-author Fr-d-ric N. Bri-re of the School Environment Research Group at the University of Montreal.
The Endocrine Society and Society for Women's Health Research are co-sponsoring a Congressional briefing on February 17 that will focus on the importance of including female subjects in both preclinical and clinical biomedical research, which could potentially revolutionize medical research and scientific discovery.
Manhattan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement and plan of merger and completed the merger transaction with Ariston Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately-held, specialty pharmaceutical company. As a result of the merger, Ariston became a wholly owned subsidiary of Manhattan Pharmaceuticals.
