Eli Lilly and Company today announced that a total of 14 U.S. and global studies involving its osteoporosis medications, FORTEO® [teriparatide (rDNA origin) injection] and EVISTA® (raloxifene HCl tablets), will be presented at the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) 2010 Annual Meeting from October 15-19 in Toronto, ON, Canada.
Scientists at A*STAR's Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN) uncovered the origin of a group of skin-deep immune cells that act as the first line of defence against harmful germs and skin infections. SIgN scientists discovered that these sentry cells of the skin, called the Langerhans cells (LCs), originate from two distinct embryonic sites - the early yolk sac and the foetal liver.
Much has been published of late, in medical journals as well as in the general media, concerning the national rise in both the Cesarean section and premature birth rates. While not directly connected, the two medical concerns have many interrelated variables. Nationally, the Cesarean section rate has risen to 32 percent of all births, while the rate of premature birth has climbed to just over 12 percent.
