Oxford spinout EvOx Therapeutics will harness the body's own precision communications system to deliver drugs to specific parts of the body, with the aim of treating conditions which are currently untreatable including those affecting the brain, as well as autoimmune diseases and cancers.
A study investigating how a cellular enzyme affects blood glucose levels in mice provides clues to pathways that may be involved in processes including the regulation of longevity and the proliferation of tumor cells.
Just how the elderly can be prevented from needlessly being referred to A&E along with how the NHS can improve the transfer of research-based evidence to the frontline is to be examined by academics from Warwick Business School.
"There is great hope that we can finally stop infants from getting infected with HIV by their mothers. But first, countries with high rates of HIV infection must work out how to deliver reliable health programs to protect babies form their mothers' infected breastmilk," Pierre Barker, senior vice president of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, writes in the Huffington Post's "Global Motherhood" blog.
