Psoriasis, a chronic disease that causes red, raised patches of skin, is increasingly seen as a systemic disease with links to arthritis and cardiovascular disease. The December issue of Mayo Clinic Women's HealthSource provides an overview of this sometimes embarrassing condition, what's known about it and how it's treated.
Two types of guidance molecules, the attractive and the repulsive, direct the growth of nerve cells to the actual target. The designation of these molecules also describes the exclusive function that was previously attributed to them, namely to show the growing nerve fibers the way. The fundamentally new approach to the research of Prof. Dr. Schwab and his team at the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) is the realization that these guidance molecules have an additional hitherto unknown role in the immune system.

AYOXXA Biosystems GmbH, an international biotechnology company, will develop a multiplex assay to support the treatment of sepsis patients as part of the project "SepsisData.Net.NRW - Digitized Pattern Recognition for Personalized Treatment of Sepsis Patients". The development will be based on the Company's innovative bead-based protein analysis platform LUNARIS™.
UMass Medical School scientist Gang Han, PhD, and his team have designed a new class of molecules used in photodynamic therapy that are able to direct lamp light deep into tissue to kill cancer tumors.
