Scientists at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute have for the first time demonstrated that baboon embryonic stem cells can be programmed to completely restore a severely damaged artery. These early results show promise for eventually developing stem cell therapies to restore human tissues or organs damaged by age or disease.
Duke Medicine researchers have identified biochemical changes in people taking antidepressants - but only in those whose depression improves. These changes occur in a neurotransmitter pathway that is connected to the pineal gland, the part of the endocrine system that controls the sleep cycle, suggesting an added link between sleep, depression and treatment outcomes.
Cytomedix, Inc. a leading developer of biologically active regenerative therapies for wound care, inflammation and angiogenesis, today announced that its Japanese partner, Millennia Holdings, Inc. ("Millennia"), has compiled data on 100 wounds treated with the Company's AutoloGelâ„¢ System, and will use this initial data to support its regulatory and reimbursement filings in Japan. The full data set is expected to be released through presentations at scientific and medical meetings and through publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Cerus Corporation today announced the pricing of an underwritten public offering of 7,368,422 units, with each unit consisting of one share of its common stock and a warrant to purchase 0.5 of a share of its common stock, at a price to the public of $2.85 per unit. The aggregate public offering price of this offering is approximately $21.0 million, and the net proceeds to the Company, after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions, but before legal and other estimated offering expenses, are expected to be approximately $19.7 million.
Reuters reports that states are cutting birth control subsidies while The Associated Press writes that it's difficult to gauge what impact anti-abortion laws have on reducing the procedure. The Arizona House gave initial approval to blocking abortion providers from getting federal funding for family planning services through the state. A similar move in Texas, which is now in effect, reverberates.
