Discovery Laboratories, Inc., reports preliminary results from its Phase 2 clinical trial of Surfaxin® in children with Acute Respiratory Failure (ARF), a critical condition often caused in children by severe respiratory infections. The objective of the study was to evaluate the safety and tolerability of intratracheal administration of Surfaxin and to assess whether Surfaxin treatment could decrease the duration of mechanical ventilation in children with ARF.
Jupiter Medical Center has incorporated one of the most advanced diagnostic tools available into its imaging program, the new Signa HDx 1.5T MRI system from GE Healthcare. The system delivers highly detailed images of the human body with increased speed, better resolution and unique applications, including dual breast scanning and non-contrast vascular imaging for patients with renal dysfunction.
Only one new drug has become available over the past 50 years for the estimated 1.5 million Americans and five million-plus people worldwide suffering from lupus, but new research has identified a previously unknown mechanism involved in the immune response that could provide an alternative therapy target.
According to Canadian scientists there is no evidence to support the belief that melatonin has any effect in the treatment of sleep disorders.
