EAU publishes live webcasts of sessions from 25th Anniversary EAU Congress

The Anniversary EAU Congress started successfully yesterday, although the force majeure circumstances - the eruption of a volcano in Iceland - which shut down many North-European airports, made changes in the programme necessary. To accomodate all urologists, health professionals, media representatives etc who have been stranded due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, the EAU is publishing live webcasts of the sessions from the 25th Anniversary EAU Congress.

The Wall Street Journal reports that "Democratic centrists said they won a tentative commitment from the White House to back a proposal to curb the growth of Medicare costs. ... One proposal pushed both by President Barack Obama and some centrists is to give the executive branch the authority to implement cuts to Medicare spending that would be recommended by independent experts. Congress could stop the cuts, but only if it acted swiftly. Fiscal conservatives say that under the current system, which gives Congress more power, lawmakers shy away from politically tough votes to restrain Medicare costs."

Instead, researchers say doctors should refocus their attention on triglyceride levels to determine which women are at highest risk of suffering a devastating and potentially fatal cardiovascular event.

Researchers improve accuracy of breast cancer prognoses

One of the many unknowns facing women who are diagnosed with breast cancer is predicting the likelihood that the cancer will spread to other parts of the body – metastasize.
