In a clinical trial led by Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital, researchers aim to exploit DNA mutations in the treatment of two blood and bone marrow cancers, a different tacit than the more traditional approach of blunting or switching off genetic mutations linked to cancer.

Three leading research funders from the UK and North America have joined forces to launch a new global initiative called MEND or, MEchanisms of cellular death in NeuroDegeneration, with a fund of $1.25 million USD (£820,000/$1.56CDN) for targeted research into brain diseases that cause dementia, such as Alzheimer's.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., says that a comprehensive health reform package - due out from his committee within the next week or two - will include plans to compare the effectiveness of drugs and other medical treatments so Americans can answer the question: "What are we getting for our money?"
