Investigators in a specialized epilepsy center have analyzed the data on a group of patients with seizures associated with their menstrual cycles (catamenial seizures) for type of epilepsy, seizure frequency, response to medication, neuroimaging findings, and seizures during pregnancy.

Structured personal diabetes care improves outcomes in women

A follow-up study to assess the effects of personally tailored diabetes care in general practice has revealed that such care reduces mortality (both all-cause and diabetes-related), in women, but not men. The study is by Dr Marlene Krag, The Research Unit for General Practice, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues, and is published in Diabetologia, the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.

ICARIA study shows 6% of Spanish workers have high risk of cardiovascular disease

The first study into the prevalence of overall cardiovascular risk in the Spanish working population shows that 6% of workers have a high risk. This prevalence increases with age in both sexes, and is highest in the farming sector, followed by construction, industry and services.
