World's first Cesium-131 implant for recurrent head and neck cancer performed

IsoRay, Inc. (Amex: ISR) announced today that on August 5, 2009, Dr. Bhupesh Parashar from the Department of Radiation Oncology, Dr. David Kutler of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, and Dr. Jason Spector of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical Center performed the world's first Cesium-131 implant for a recurrent head and neck cancer (buccal mucosa).

Moerae announces initiation of second MMI-0100 Phase 1 clinical trial for pulmonary disorders

Moerae Matrix Inc. announced today the initiation of its second Phase 1 clinical trial with MMI-0100, a first-in-class inhibitor of MAPKAP kinase 2 (MK2) that is being developed for pulmonary disorders characterized by inflammation and fibrosis. The study, conducted in the United Kingdom, is a double-blind, two-way cross-over design lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge study further evaluating the safety and tolerability of MMI-0100 when given via inhalation to healthy subjects who smoke.

Fluorescence method predicts the efficacy of PDT for Port Wine Stains: Study

It is known that fluctuations in the treatment outcome of photodynamic therapy (PDT) between patients are related to the concentration of photosensitizer in target tissue. The purpose of a study, by Wang et al, published in the February 2010 issue of Experimental Biology and Medicine was to establish a fluorescence method not only providing a semi-quantitative measurement of photosensitizer concentration but also predicting the efficacy of PDT for Port Wine Stains (PWS).
