IDEAL study holds new hope for children exposed to methamphetamine in the womb

Despite continuing reports that methamphetamine abuse during pregnancy can lead to behavioral and emotional problems in children, pregnant women continue to abuse the illicit drug. Nearly one-fourth of pregnant women seeking treatment at federal facilities were methamphetamine users.

NCCN experts recommend bevacizumab for treating metastatic breast cancer

The Expert Breast Cancer Panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) met July 10-12, 2011 in Philadelphia, PA. At the meeting, the multidisciplinary breast cancer experts voted in favor of maintaining the current position and recommendation in the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology for Breast Cancer on the use of bevacizumab in metastatic breast cancer.

Bioxodes completes seed funding round to bring Ir-CPI product into pre-clinical development

Bioxodes SA, a company developing products derived from natural sources, has completed a EUR 2.6 million (USD 3.5 million) first seed funding round with a consortium of business angels and Belgian investment funds. EUR 1.6 million is from the European Regional Development Fund and the Walloon Region in Belgium via the Retech program for Research and Technology. It will be used to bring the company's lead product Ir-CPI into pre-clinical development over the next 18 months.

Merck's HPV vaccine Gardasil and GlaxoSmithKline's HPV vaccine Cervarix in clinical trials have been shown to be 100% effective in preventing infection with HPV strains 16 and 18, which together cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases.
