Biotime completes the process of issuing common shares and warrants under its revolving line of credit agreement

BioTime, Inc. (OTCBB: BTIM) announced today that it has completed an Exchange Offer to the holders of notes issued under its revolving line of credit agreement. BioTime issued 1,989,515 common shares and warrants to purchase 100,482 common shares in exchange for notes in the aggregate principal amount of $3,349,259.

Beiging of white fat could be harnessed to combat diabetes

Researchers are getting closer to learning how to turn white fat cells into brown fat cells, in a process called "beiging," to bring down blood sugar levels and fight diabetes. The team, led by Joseph Baur, PhD, an assistant professor of Physiology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania published their findings this month in the journal Diabetes.

Link between dietary supplements and increased risk of cancer

Beta-carotene, selenium and folic acid - taken up to three times their recommended daily allowance, these supplements are probably harmless. But taken at much higher levels as some supplement manufacturers suggest, these three supplements have now been proven to increase the risk of developing a host of cancers.

Bottle-fed babies more likely to be obese children

The objective of the research, which was based on the detailed feeding history of almost 900 mothers and babies in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, was to find out whether different feeding patterns and energy intakes provided to infants, affected body weight and BMI later in childhood.

UB pharmacy researcher to design real-time algorithm to reduce hospital readmission rates for COPD patients

To lower hospital readmission rates for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), University at Buffalo pharmacy researcher David Jacobs has received a $962,000 award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to develop a real-time readmission risk prediction algorithm.
