Perrigo Company plc today announced it has received an AB therapeutic equivalent rating and final U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for the generic version of KlorCon extended-release tablets (600 mg and 750 mg), manufactured by Upsher-Smith Laboratories, Inc., and marketed by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Researchers have found long-sought genes in the sensory hair cells of the inner ear that, when mutated, prevent sound waves from being converted to electric signals - a fundamental first step in hearing. The team, co-led by Jeffrey Holt, PhD, in the department of otolaryngology at Children-s Hospital Boston, and Andrew Griffith, MD, PhD, of the NIH-s National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), then restored these electrical signals in the sensory cells of deaf mice by introducing normal genes.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and AstraZeneca today announced that the European Commission has approved a label update for ONGLYZA in the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes who have moderate or severe renal impairment. The approved dosage for the patient group is a new once-daily 2.5 mg dose.
Senators voted Thursday to give $26 billion in aid to states and schools, $16 billion of which will be directed to Medicaid programs around the nation as the House prepares to return during its recess to cast votes on the legislation.
Kaiser Health News staff writer Jenny Gold, working in collaboration with NPR, reports: "As of mid-January, most of NYU is up and running again, including the labor and delivery unit. But the question still looms whether NYU will lose some of the patients and even doctors who sought refuge at NYU's biggest competitors after the storm. If that happens, the storm could end up having a long term impact on NYU's valuable share of the fiercely competitive health care market in New York City."
