A new study shows that vitamin B12 may protect against Alzheimer's disease, adding more evidence to the scientific debate about whether the vitamin is effective in reducing the risk of memory loss. The research will be published in the October 19, 2010, issue of Neurology®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

Boehringer Ingelheim's Prazaxa receives Japanese approval for stroke prevention in AF patients

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan today approved dabigatran etexilate, Boehringer Ingelheim's novel, oral direct thrombin inhibitor under the brand name Prazaxa for the prevention of ischemic stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation marking the first approval of a novel oral anticoagulant in the Asia-Pacific region and specifically Japan in nearly 50 years.

New combination approach to eradicate established tumors

A laboratory study conducted at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands has found that immunotherapy can be efficiently combined with photodynamic therapy (PDT) to eradicate established tumors. The approach results in strong local tumor destruction and a robust systemic immune response against the disease.
