Toxin-nanoparticle combo inhibits brain cancer invasion while imaging tumors

Working with a nanoparticle designed to target and image glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, investigators at the University of Washington in Seattle have found that these same nanoparticles inhibit tumor cell invasion, one of the key events that leads to the metastatic spread of cancer. The investigators have also determined how the nanoparticles exert this potentially beneficial effect.

Researchers receive $1,894,271 grant to address new drug targets for diastolic dysfunction

An increasing number of patients - including nearly all patients with heart failure - suffer from impaired relaxation, which is part of a clinical syndrome known as diastolic dysfunction. Weight loss in obese patients with obstructive sleep apnea appears to improve sleep apnea primarily by reducing tongue fat, according to new research published online in the American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
