Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, a leading company for innovative and top-quality high-tech products in healthcare, life science and performance materials today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Fast Track designation for the development of evofosfamide (previously known as TH-302), administered in combination with gemcitabine, for the treatment of previously untreated patients with metastatic or locally advanced unresectable pancreatic cancer.

Red and processed meat linked to greater risk of death from all causes

Individuals who eat more red meat and processed meat appear to have a modestly increased risk of death from all causes and also from cancer or heart disease over a 10-year period, according to a report in the March 23 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.

Additional data from Tokai's galeterone Phase 1 study on CRPC

Tokai Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing new treatments for prostate cancer, today announced that additional data from a Phase 1 safety and proof-of-concept study evaluating lead candidate, galeterone, in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) will be highlighted in a poster presentation titled, "Phase I clinical trial of galeterone, a multifunctional anti-androgen and CYP17 inhibitor in castration resistant prostate cancer," abstract number 4665, on Sunday, June 3, 2012, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
