Macrophages invade diabetic pancreatic tissue during early stages of type 2 diabetes

As people's waistlines increase, so does the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Now scientists have a better understanding of exactly what happens in the body that leads up to type 2 diabetes, and what likely causes some of the complications related to the disease. Specifically, scientists from Denmark have found that in mice, macrophages, a specific type of immune cell, invade the diabetic pancreatic tissue during the early stages of the disease.

Neogen reports record net income for second-quarter fiscal 2010

Neogen Corporation announced today that its net income for the second quarter of FY 2010, which ended Nov. 30, increased 18% from the previous year's second quarter. Adjusted for a 3-for-2 stock split effective Dec. 15, net income in the quarter rose to $0.20 per share, compared to the prior year's $0.17. Neogen's second quarter net income of $4,610,000 set another quarterly record for the 27-year-old company.
