IOF urges health professionals and public to recognize signs of spinal fractures

A new report issued by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) for World Osteoporosis Day puts the spotlight on the severe impact of spinal fractures and calls on health professionals to recognize the signs of these fractures in their patients.

Five new studies provide evidence to support simple steps we can take to prevent illness and improve our overall health. In the June issue of The American Journal of Medicine, researchers report on fish consumption to reduce the risk of colon cancer; the effectiveness ofhypnotherapy and acupuncture for smoking cessation; regular teeth cleaning to improve cardiovascular health; the effectiveness of primary care physicians in weight loss programs; and the use of low-dose aspirin to reduce cancer risk.

An experimental vaccine against Zika virus developed by Brazilian and US researchers has been tested successfully in trials with mice.

Positive results from Oncolytics REOLYSIN combination Phase 2 clinical trial for head and neck cancers

Oncolytics Biotech Inc. today announced that positive results from a Phase 2 clinical trial (REO 015) using intravenous administration of REOLYSIN in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with advanced head and neck cancers will be presented at the AACR-NCI-EORTC International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics.

Later school start times may improve sleep in teens and decrease risk of auto accidents

Research in the current issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine shows that after a one-hour delay of school start times, teens increased their average nightly hours of sleep and decreased their "catch-up sleep" on the weekends, and they were involved in fewer auto accidents.
