Researchers discover significant crisis-period spike in heart attacks in Greece

Heart attack rates have spiked in Greece since the start of the country's financial crisis, especially among women and residents older than 45, according to a study of patient records being presented at the American College of Cardiology's 62nd Annual Scientific Session.

Orc1 mutations may explain pathology in manifestations of Meier-Gorlin syndrome

Research published Aug. 1 by scientists at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) links gene mutations found in some patients with Meier-Gorlin syndrome (MGS) with specific cellular dysfunctions that are thought to give rise to a particularly extreme version of dwarfism, small brain size, and other manifestations of abnormal growth which generally characterize that rare condition.

Multi-site study of noninvasive brain stimulation to improve upper limb function after spinal cord injury

Kessler Foundation is one of three sites participating in a study of noninvasive brain stimulation to improve upper limb function funded by the U.S. Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs titled, "Improving Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Interventions by Retraining the Brain." Ela Plow, PhD, is principal investigator for the Cleveland Clinic; Svetlana Pundik, PhD, is principal investigator for the Louis B. Stokes VA Cleveland Medical Center; and Gail Forrest, PhD, is principal investigator for the Foundation, which received a sub-award of $778,000. Dr. Forrest is director of the new Center for Spinal Stimulation at Kessler Foundation.

Hudson Valley Bike Ride to continue for second year to raise awareness for JBFCS

On July 18, 2010, hundreds of cyclists will gather to ride in the Jewish Board of Family & Children's Services' second annual Hudson Valley Bike Ride - a beautiful, scenic ride with rest stops at some spectacular settings in State parks and other beautiful spots. The Westchester fundraiser was a resounding success in 2009.
