Early initiation of treatment after primary hip fracture helps reduce second fracture incidence, mortality

​Research presented today at the 4th Asia-Pacific Osteoporosis Meeting showed that second hip fractures are more deadly than first hip fractures. Based in Hong Kong, the study evaluated the overall incidence of a second hip fracture and subsequent mortality in 43,832 patients, aged 65 or above, with operatively treated first hip fracture during the years 2000-2011.

Lilly, Sarah Cannon Research Institute partner to co‑develop investigational oncology compound

Eli Lilly and Company and Sarah Cannon Research Institute today announced a strategic partnership to co‑develop an investigational oncology compound, LY3023414, a PI3K/mTOR dual inhibitor. Under the agreement, SCRI will collaborate with Lilly to provide clinical development expertise and program design, as well as medical oversight and trial management. Patient enrollment for the initial Phase II clinical trial is underway.

Scientists in Washington, DC, are reporting development and successful tests of a new way for exploring the insides of living cells, the microscopic building blocks of all known plants and animals. They explode the cell while it is still living inside a plant or animal, vaporize its contents, and sniff. The study appears in online in ACS' journal Analytical Chemistry.
