GSK, Impax enter global development, commercialization agreement for PD investigational product, IPX066

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Impax Pharmaceuticals, the brand products division of Impax Laboratories, Inc. (Impax), today announced an agreement for the development and commercialization of IPX066, Impax's novel extended release carbidopa-levodopa product, outside the United States and Taiwan. IPX066, an investigational product under development for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease (PD), is currently in Phase III clinical trials.

Antidepressant use in children, adolescents linked to increased risk of type 2 diabetes

A team of researchers from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and the University of Maryland School of Medicine found that current (prolonged) use of serotonin reuptake inhibitors – a major class of antidepressant medications – in children and adolescents was associated with a nearly two-fold increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes when compared to youths who formerly used (but eventually discontinued) those medications.

Simulation training may help improve driving skills of Parkinson's disease patients

In a first-of-its-kind study, Medical College of Georgia researchers are testing whether simulation driving can reduce Parkinson's patients' threefold increased risk of car accidents.
